Wild Estate is a boutique vineyard and winery located on Waiheke Island in New Zealand, and is developing a reputation for producing character, limited edition and premium quality wines. They grow a selection of quality varietals and with a combined effort producing a dynamic range of wines from their small, 3-hectare vineyard planted in the Onetangi Valley, crafting terroir reflective styles. Their wines are primarily available at their Wild Estate Restaurant and Cellar Door, plus can be found online.
Being very much a boutique vineyard, their current size means that they currently don't have their own winemaking facilities. So instead, they have tapped into some of the island's finest, with Matt Sloane - viticulturist who looks after the vineyards, and who also takes care of a number of boutique wineries on the Island, and their wines are made next door at Mudbrick Winery by their respected winemaker Patrick Newton.

This wine has a deep black-red colour and a slightly cloudy/unfined hue. On the inviting nose you have wild violets and mixed dark berries aromas, pepper, dried herbs and a deft hint of tobacco leaf. These carry onto the full-bodied palate where you enjoy those luscious dark berry flavours, with infused dried herbs, that varietal note of pepper, wrapped in chewy tannins giving this wine good structure and focus. This wine has confidence and a stealthy complex nature that lingers nicely on the classic dry finish.

This 2022 Wild Estate ‘Wanderlust’ Syrah has 14% Alc./vol. Made in a classic dry style. Decanting for approx. 45-60 minutes would be appreciated and serve in a medium-to-fuller shaped red wine glass at 16° - 18°C. • *NZ$70.00

A terroir Waiheke Syrah with charming confidence & stealth complexity.
