For more than 20 years, I have worked with Andrea Cecchi and the passionate team at Cecchi in the heart of Tuscany. I have had a very close hands-on relationship, with the estate behind this new wine. I visited Maremma and the site of the stunning Val delle Rose winery even before they broke ground, along with seeing the pieces of the underground cellars being put in place and the first tanks filled and so much more right through to this summer 2025. I have been involved with the planting of new vineyards and regularly tasting single grape and selected wine parcels with Andrea Fiorello - estate winemaker, whom I have just spent several days with at the winery and in the vineyards looking at more new plantings, this next vintage, plus tasting a large number of wines soon to be blended for ageing and some for release.
After a diligent, modern light-touch approach to vinification, used to retain and express the lighter, more elegant notes of this varietal and coastal region. This fresh style of rosé was tasted, blended and bottled, then allowed to rest for around 2 months before being ready for release earlier this year, crafted in time for the northern-hemisphere summer season. This new range of wines are inspired by the local fauna and flora of the Maremma area of Tuscany, celebrating the gentle sloping vineyards of Val delle Rose and the close interplay with the Tuscan growing season, the gentle influence of the Mediterranean Sea breezes plus to showcase regional flowers found in the vineyards and estate gardens.
This Rosato / Rosé is called ‘Calipte’ which is a Greek word for the hummingbird, a symbol of grace and lightness, just like this modern interpretation and expression of Sangiovese crafted in this contemporary style of rosé.

In the glass you have a vibrant, light coral salmon colour and shining hue. On the inviting nose you are greeted by regional summer floral notes of pink acacia along with malope malacoides, wild gladiolus, strawberries, plus and a hint of citrus and pink grapefruit. On the elegant and light-footed palate, you have a freshness, and a dynamic engagement from savoury Sangiovese skin characters. These are expressed with deft cranberry, strawberry and grapefruit flavours all nicely balanced by a good splash of fruit acidity giving focus and direction to a classic dry finish.

This 2024 CECCHI ‘Calipte’ Toscana Rosé has 12% Alc./vol. Made in a classic dry style. No decanting required and serve chilled in an aromatic shaped wine glass at 7°- 8°C. • *Euro €15.00

A refreshing kiss on the palate, celebrating Tuscan summer fruits.
