They purchased 34.5 hectares of these pioneering vineyards in Central Otago. Most of the vines purchased are on Cairnmuir Road, with a reputation as the holy grail of Bannockburn. Nestled in the foothills of the mountains and amongst breathtaking scenery, the sites offer ideal conditions which are suited to producing quality Pinot Noir grapes.
Sustainable viticulture is high on Edmond de Rothschild’s priority list. Ensuring they have the lowest possible impact on the environment and preserve the unique nature that is Central Otago. And to ensure they leave it intact for future generations, while simultaneously producing exceptional wines. While respecting local knowledge, Edmond de Rothschild is aiming to combine its own know-how, with these vineyards and the unique wines of Central Otago.
The fruit for this wine was carefully hand harvested and then gently pressed and settled overnight. The settled juice was then transferred into a stainless-steel tank where it underwent a cool slow fermentation. Once fermentation was complete, the wine was moved to age in a sandstone amphora, where it had extended yeast lees contact for three months maturation.
★ This Riesling has a pale lemon straw colour with a shining hue. It has an inviting aroma. It has an inviting aroma of jasmine, fresh limes, lemon zest, green apples and a hint of lemongrass. The palate is dynamic and energised, celebrating those vibrant citrus fruits along with a hint of guava, intwined with a deft seam of minerality giving added allure. This is a nicely balanced new world style Riesling, with harmonious varietal acidity resulting in a silky texture and refreshing signature.
This 2024 AKARUA ‘Central Otago’ Dry Riesling has 13% Alc./vol.
